Remote Learning Plan 2022-2023

Remote learning for all Gadsden City Schools students begins August 17th, 2020.

W.E. Striplin elementary school will utilize the Google Classroom platform to communicate activities, deliver instruction, and assess student performance. Instruction will be a combination of live Google Meets (face-to-face via video) instruction and/or recorded video instruction provided by the student’s teacher, as well as curriculum-based content videos, independent practice activities, etc, as needed. Google Classroom will be used to get all instructional components to the student and family. Anything that a teacher conducts in a live setting, will be uploaded and available for later viewing.

Teachers will continuously connect with students and families via email, Google Classroom, telephone, and other methods of correspondence. We recommend that parents use student Google emails that will be provided to receive information that is instructional-related.

Attendance will be determined by student participation in daily instruction and completion of assignments and assessments. Student online time will be recorded using an app through Google. Remote learning will align with traditional learning when students return to the campus

Students in grades K-5 will earn numerical grades and a final letter grade at the end of each nine-week grading period using the following scale. Grading for Kindergarten will be assessed and monitored using a standards-based skills checklist prior to the first progress report. Grades can be accessed through the iNow parent portal, and you can expect regular feedback from your child’s teacher.

Letter Numerical Grade
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69

In addition, the school counselor will provide guidance services to students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs, as well as regular guidance classes via Google Classroom.

Additional activities will be offered to students such as music, art, computer, library, and physical education. These classes will use the Google Classroom platform to deliver lessons.

The library will offer weekly activities that can be found on the school’s library website. These activities can be used as needed to provide enriching activities for all students.
